What are the Basics of LED Lighting?
LED is a semiconductor light source that emits light when current flows through it. Electrons in the semiconductor recombine with electron holes, releasing energy in the form of photons. They do a lot of different jobs and are suitable for many LED lighting applications. Besides, they form numbers on digital clocks(SMD), transmit information from remote controls, light up watches and tell you when your appliances are turned on. When they are collected, they can form images on an advertising display board or illuminate a traffic light.
What is an LED?
An LED is a type of diode that turns electrical energy into light. A diode is an electrical component that only works in one direction. An LED is an electrical component that emits light when electricity flows through in one direction, from the Anode (positive side) to the Cathode (negative side).
In general, 5mm Oval LED and surface mount LED chip are the main types.
A. 5mm Oval LEDs
5mm Oval LEDs are diodes inside a 5mm diameter lens with two thin metal legs on the bottom. They are used in broad applications where a lower amount of light is required, such as commercial lighting, architectural lighting, LCD TV/monitor backlights, etc. It runs at a much smaller drive current max. 30mA, while the surface mount LED chip requires at least 350mA. B. Surface Mount LEDs (SMD)
